Live Chat: Talk Notre Dame football with Eric Hansen(08/11/2011)
12:08
Eric Hansen:
Welcome to Notre Dame Live Football Chat, Training Camp Edition. I'm ready for your questions. We're going to do the giveaway thing again at the end of the chat. Three questioners, chosen at random, will get a 2011 ISR Notre Dame Football Annual. So check the transcript later in the day to see if you won -- especially if your boss coaxes you away from the chat early and back to that boring spreadsheet. As always, no whining, no biting, no bare feet and, above all, no wagering. Please include your hometown with your question. Off we go.

Hi Eric. Do you think from Kelly's comments after practice that Nix will start over Cwynar? I forget the exact comment, but it sounded like Nix was going to be the starter.
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:08 Beth from Camp Hill, PA
12:11
Eric Hansen:
I do think Nix is going to be the starter, especially after he showed up at much svelter 326 pounds and tore it up in camp the first few days. But Cwynar is a terrific guy to foll in and keep Nix fresh. Right now the battle is interesting for the No. 3 spot in that rotation -- senior Hafis Williams vs. true freshman Tony Springmann.

There's definitely a buzz about this team, especially about the potential of the defense.

[Comment From jim in Washington, DCjim in Washington, DC: ]
what do you think of the less heralded D-linemen-the Schwenkes, the H. Williamses, and the Brandon Newmans of the world. Have they been passed up, or do they still have some solid football to contribute?
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:12 jim in Washington, DC
12:16
Eric Hansen:
Kona Schwenke, now at 296 (up from 225 when he arrived) is definitely in the plans at defensive end as a key backup. His progress made the staff feel comfortable enough to audition Springmann at nose, move Niklas to outside linebacker, Brad Carrico and Bruce Heggie to the offensive line. Tyler Stockton and Brandon Newman have a tough climb to get into the picture at nose guard. As I mentioned, Hafis is battling Springmann to stay in the top 3. The competition, which ND has lacked on the d-line in recent years, is making everyone better.

[Comment From Todd P - Perrysburg, OHTodd P - Perrysburg, OH: ]
Eric, loves these chats and your articles. Last year there seemed to be a lot of hamstring injuries. Do you know if Longo is doing anything different this year to prevent or was that just a freak thing. Thanks
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:16 Todd P - Perrysburg, OH
12:18
Eric Hansen:
Brian Kelly addressed this going into the offseason, vowing to take a look at it, but it's been pretty quiet on that front. Our first chance to talk to Longo comes Tuesday, so I will ask him then. So far, it has not been a problem in an admittedly small sampling this fall.

[Comment From Moose, Ottawa, CanadaMoose, Ottawa, Canada: ]
Without unduly denigrating Mr. Weis, what are the significant differences between his regime and that of Mr. Kelly? (Of course, the only one that functionally matters, the five-year winning rate, isn't known yet.)
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:18 Moose, Ottawa, Canada
12:21
Eric Hansen:
There are a lot of differences, including personality, but the two that give Kelly an advantage are significant an extensive head coaching experience before taking the ND job, and an extensive knowledge of both sides of the football. I think Charlie would have been more successful at ND has he served as a college head coach elsewhere before coming to ND. I think he learned a lot and applied some of those lessons, but they came so late in his tenure, it was tough not to make the change after the 2009 season. I do think Weis will do well in Florida.

[Comment From Allen in Baton RougeAllen in Baton Rouge: ]
I heard Gerry Dinardo say on the radio that an elite level defensive line is a clear indicator of an elite level team. Where is ND with respect to developing that "elite" level of line play on a consistent basis?
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:21 Allen in Baton Rouge
12:26
Eric Hansen:
I agree with Gerry that it is a must for an elite team. Does ND have it? The Irish have that kind of talent. Kapron Lewis-Moore and Ethan Johnson are better players than they were a year ago. Louis Nix has taken a quantum leap as has Kona Schwenke. The challenge is taking Aaron Lynch, Stephon Tuitt, Chase Hounshell and Tony Springmann and developing them. Lynch coming in last spring was a big help. The fact that Tuitt and Hounshell don't HAVE to play and can learn at a healthy pace is a plus. So it's still a work in progress that has the potential to get better every week.

[Comment From Mark from BostonMark from Boston: ]
Hi Eric -- How concerned should Irish fans be about depth in the cornerback position? Blanton and Gray are solid, but behind them there is very little experience.
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:26 Mark from Boston
12:30
Eric Hansen:
Hi Mark
BK talked about this yesterday. Lo Wood has put on about 10-12 pounds and is definitely showing consistency. Bennett Jackson, the converted wide receiver, shows flashes of "greatness" but at a position that can't tolerate lapses of ordinariness. The freshmen have a long way to go. As long as Gray and Blanton stay healthy, Jackson and Wood can give ND some good plays in a reserve role. If one of them has to be a starter for a long stretch, then yes depth could be a big problem. Remember when the Irish play nickel, they do so with a safety rather than a corner, so they won't be stretched there.

[Comment From Rob from Sunny San DiegoRob from Sunny San Diego: ]
Good Morning Eric, I am starting to get excited for ND Football to start!!! My question: Ishaq Williams, Stephon Tuittm, and Aaron Lynch were all great additions to ND this year. Do you think all 3 will play this year and who do you think will have the biggest impact. I know Lynch had a great blue and gold game!
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:30 Rob from Sunny San Diego
12:32
Eric Hansen:
I think all three will play. I think all three will have an impact. I don't think any of them will be starters, and that's not a knock on them. For example, Darius Fleming, a player ahead of Williams at the "Cat" linebacker spot, has elevated his game to the point he doesn't even look like the same player he was last year. I think Williams, in particular, could be a huge help on special teams.

[Comment From Jeff - PittsburghJeff - Pittsburgh: ]
Do you think this team will show a noticeable improvement conditioning-wise from year one to year two in Paul Longo's S+C program?
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:32 Jeff - Pittsburgh
12:34
Eric Hansen:
I don't think conditioning will be a problem at all. And it's not just Longo's programs. It's depth. There was a big drop-off between a lot of first-teamers to the second and third teams last season. That gap has closed considerably at almost every position.

How can we bring back 1:30 pm starts? I am sure businesses (restaurants) in South Bend would agree!
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:34 jim, Fremont, Ohio
12:37
Eric Hansen:
Jim, if you have that kind of pull, I'll let you sit on SB Trib columnist Al Lesar's lap in the press box this season. I think most people would prefer 1:30 -- business owners, fans, and ESPECIALLY the print media. But ND wants to be a good TV partner, and 3:30 translates into a bigger nationwide audience for NBC than 1:30 does. Prime time would bring even more eyeballs.

[Comment From Ken from Westland, MIKen from Westland, MI: ]
ND will be wearing their green, throwbacks against Mich, and their normal jerseys..... any chance for another jersey to debut?
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:37 Ken from Westland, MI
12:39
Eric Hansen:
I don't think there is one in the works, but I'll be honest with you, I might be the last to know. It's something that's a low priority for me in covering the beat on a day-to-day basis. I'm not judging anyone else, but it's not something I have a natural curiosity about -- probably because it looks like I dress myself in the dark.

Does dayne crist still have 2 years of eligibilty left? If so which one of the qauterbacks do you see transfering?
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:40 jj w
12:42
Eric Hansen:
Dayne Crist will be a senior in 2011 and have a fifth-year option in 2012. That doesn't necessarily mean he will come back in 2012, but I think his trajectory is to be here in 2012. As far as who will transfer? All three of the other quarterbacks knew Dayne's potential and years of eligibility when they signed. None of them were promised anything but an opportunity. I don't see anyone with happy feet at the moment.

[Comment From Robb, DurangoRobb, Durango: ]
Eric, Felt like a mixed message on Daniels in terms of being ready to contribute early. Lots of skills and talents, but supposedly having trouble getting the mental part down which is understandable. Is he an early play guy or more like mid-season?
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:42 Robb, Durango
12:45
Eric Hansen:
I think if he plays early, it will be on special teams in the return game. ND is really solid 1-6 on WRs and that doesn't even include promising sophomore Daniel Smith. There's not a need to push him faster than he needs to go as a wide receiver. Kelly loves his potential. NOW, let's say ND suffers an injury in the running back stable and Kelly feels compelled to move Theo Riddick back to RB? Then Daniels gets fast-tracked, I believe.

How will the recent cuts at the Tribune affect ND football and recruiting coverage?
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:45 Jeff, Michigan City
12:50
Eric Hansen:
Jeff, you lively minx. I would much rather duck this question .. but I criticize coaches when they do that, so I'll answer you. ND football and ND recruiting dominate our online readership. It's not even close. Therefore, those areas will still remain an important focus on what we do. Now how do you execute that with significantly fewer people? Work harder and smarter is my best answer. My hope is that the reader won't be able to tell we have a smaller staff.

[Comment From Pat from PittsburghPat from Pittsburgh: ]
Who will win the other inside Linebacker job? Do any of the Frosh skill players appear to be athletic upgrades to the passing game?
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:51 Pat from Pittsburgh
12:53
Eric Hansen:
I think Carlo Calabrese wins it. Dan Fox, a high school safety, presents a more potent challenge than anyone could have imagined a year ago, but Carlo did what the staff wanted him to do in the summer -- specifically improve his pass-coverage skills -- and then some. As for Daniels and Farley in the passing game -- I think Daniels will get on the field faster the Farley in the passing game. I think they'll find a spot for Farley on special teams.

[Comment From Andy-Glendale HeightsAndy-Glendale Heights: ]
Football is in the air, I can feel it. This past week there were some stories that NBC will move some Irish home games to Versus (soon to be NBC Sports Channel on 1-2-12). There hasn't been any comment from ND. I think this may be something that was written into the contract when it was renewed but with NBCSC being in 28 million less homes than ESPN (right now) and past statements indicating a desire to remain on over-the-air broadcast networks for broad acces to the alumni base, is this something that may lead to ND shopping the program around when the current contract expires in 2015? Dick Ebersol was a huge supported and was forced out, will that have an impact on the relationship with NBC/Comcast?
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:54 Andy-Glendale Heights
12:55
Eric Hansen:
Great question. I can't see ND wanting to do that. Talking to athletic director Jack Swarbrick about this is on my to-do list.

[Comment From John, ChampaignJohn, Champaign: ]
Eric, I am curious about the mechanism of pulling offers. I believe ND pulled an offer for a DT from Illinois. Do you know if ND can unilaterally do this without warning, or does ND give the prospect "x" amount of time (e.g., 24 hours) to committ. Or are they upfront with them by saying Players A, B, ,and C are interested -- first one to committ gets the offer, the others will get the offers pulled?
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:55 John, Champaign
12:59
Eric Hansen:
CBS Sports Network recruiting analyst Tom Lemming walked me through this a couple of weeks ago. In general terms, a guy like WR Dorial Green-Beckham, the nation's top prospect, is going to get all the time he wants. But let's say you're only going to recruit two inside linebackers. There's a five-star guy you want to save a spot for. So you've got say 3-4 other guys who are comparable in talent, all in line for that one last scholarship. Generally you let those guys know you'll take the first one who commits. I'm sure there are times where the message gets muddled or lost, but when a school has more than 200 offers out and only 15-25 spots, some offers are going to have to come with conditions and expiration dates.

Will Taio get carries as a goaline back this fall????
Thursday August 11, 2011 12:59 Ken from Westland, MI

Eric Hansen:
That would be cool, wouldn't it? Manti Te'o was a standout fullback for state champion Punahou in Hawaii in high school. But I think if ND needs a banger near the goal line, it's going to be Jonas Gray.

Do you think Stephon Tuitte is too tall to play nose guard? He is certainly big enough. Or maybe he'll stay at end?
Thursday August 11, 2011 1:01 FritzNC From Charlotte
1:02
Eric Hansen:
I would be shocked if he moved from end. He's just such a great fit there. For the record he is 6-5 (though he looks taller). Tony Sprigmann, who has been moved to nose, is pushing 6-7, so I don't think being too tall is an issue.

I was pretty surprised to hear the loser of the FS position will be the nickle back and not Wood or Bennet. What did you think about that?
Thursday August 11, 2011 1:02 David from Columbus
1:05
Eric Hansen:
It's not necessarily the "loser." If you use a corner as your nickel in college, you risk teams spreading you out and running the football. That's particularly true if that thrid corner isn't especially physical. That happened to some of the Weis teams. A safety, especially someone with cornerback skills like Slaughter or pass-rushing skills like Motta, makes more sense. I like what Kelly's doing there.

[Comment From Ted, Eugene, ORTed, Eugene, OR: ]
In contrast to our local Ducks who had 6 games last season where they scored over 50... I'd love to see us have 6 games where we keep our opponents under 10. What do you think of our chances? Everyone is "buzzing" about the defense, but what is it that you see in practice that strikes you as different from previous years?
Thursday August 11, 2011 1:05 Ted, Eugene, OR
1:09
Eric Hansen:
Wow, six games under 10 points? I'm sure BK hopes you are right. Here's what I see in this defense. The biggest differences are these. Outside linebacker play is SO much better than last year. Fleming was lost at Cat. The drop linebackers struggled. Up front, ND could not generate a pass rush with just its defensive front. The upgrades at OLB (Fleming is mega-improved) and the athleticism in the entire front 7 are the big differences I see. Put that together with a veteran secondary and its difficult for an opposing offensive coordinator to identify a weakness.

Have you heard any updates about the recruitment of Andrus Peat? I live down the street from his HS (incidentally it's a pretty bad HS team) and would love to see him at AZ; however ND seems to have trouble pulling kids in from AZ.

Our recruiting guy, Bob Wieneke, says ND is in his final 2. Recruiting analyst Tom Lemming likes ND's chances with the elite 6-7, 305-pound offensive lineman.

Hi Eric, Love these chats as we count the days down the 2011 regular season. Preseason is always about the positives and who is emerging. What areas have you seen that could be areas of concern?
Thursday August 11, 2011 1:12 Matt from Buffalo
1:14
Eric Hansen:
Thanks Matt. Running back depth, consistency in punting (think field position), how well the starting QB will play (though I think that will be fine), and what would happen to the defense if Manti Te'o went down.

[Comment From Shaun in Columbus OhioShaun in Columbus Ohio: ]
Supposedly Texas' AD DeLoss Dodds was asked about Texas A&M possibly leaving for the SEC and alluded to the possiblity of Texas and ND "forming their own conference". Any thoughts on this possibility? Although it would take away independance it certainly would be intriguing and a better option than being forced to join the Big Ten or other conferences.
Thursday August 11, 2011 1:14 Shaun in Columbus Ohio
1:17
Eric Hansen:
The 10-team Big 12 remains volatile because of other schools' resentment of Texas' power, including the Longhorn Network. I'm not sure I see adding A&M to the SEC as a great fit -- not by itself. Texas and ND are the two most powerful teams on the college landscape right now. I don't think either one of them is trying to change the status at this time. If they were to join forces, they would have to join say the Big Ten. They couldn't just be a two-team league.

Who in your opinion will be the kick off and punt run back starter this season?
Thursday August 11, 2011 1:18 John from Newnan, Ga
1:19
Eric Hansen:
I still think Theo Riddick ends up on both units unless one of the freshman wows Kelly and gains his trust. I think Riddick would be paired on kickoffs with freshman DaVaris Daniels or sophomore Bennett Jackson, but there's a lot of finagling left to do at both sports.

I know it's a bit of a silly question, but what do you think of Notre Dame's placement in the USA Today preseason poll? It seems to me they're a little high even after the last few games last year.
Thursday August 11, 2011 1:20 Edward
1:23
Eric Hansen:
Not a silly question at all. Hopefully, you'll be able to say the same of the answer. Polls are nothing more than an educated guess. I have to vote in AP's poll in the next couple of days. You can't base everything on last year. You have to do some projecting. Actually the ranking in the coaches poll (18th) is one of the lower rankings I've seen. I'll let you know on Twitter where I end up putting ND once I have my poll done.

I heard a real variance of opinions from fans about that last year. One guy even emailed me that ND should resort to electric shock treatment to get the fans to stand up after the TV timeouts. Speed is always mentioned as one of the big differences between the top 5 teams and ND. How far away is this team from competing on that same level and closing that gap. Also, anything new on the recruiting front. Thanks for the great work!

Thanks Keith. I think the gap is closing, especially at the positions where it's been most noticeable -- defensive line and outside linebacker. Plenty of recruiting news coming up. We'll have some online later this afternoon (no commitments, just visits, etc.)

HI Eric, thanks for all the great coverage. Daniels seems to have impressed the coaching staff early on, do you see him playing meaningful minutes right away, or just contributing on special teams to start the year? Who do you think has more upside long term Daniels or GAIII?

I think they'll bring Daniels along at a deliberate pace. Kelly really likes his skill set. Atkinson is now a running back. I'm not sure if Kelly will move him back to WR next year if he gets two good running backs. My sense is he'll stay at RB. I think Daniels is more ready to make a contribution early.

ND has enough talent to be a surprise contender in 2011, but everything has to fall perfectly. I think 2012 is more realistic (then again the schedule is brutal). Who will start at QB? I'm sticking with Dayne Crist.

I am so worried about the running game if Wood gets injured. The back ups are relatively rookies. How will the running game be if that happens and what does the future hold?
Thursday August 11, 2011 1:39 Bruce, Elkhart, IN
1:42
Eric Hansen:
Let's start with the future. ND loses Jonas Gray after this year. That would leave you with Wood, Atkinson, McDaniel and whomever Kelly recruits in this cycle. ND is starting to get interest (and scheduling visits for) some top running back talent. Again, Kelly can move Riddick back to running back in a pinch in 2012. As far as the present, if Wood got hurt for a long stretch of the season, Riddick would have to move back.

Eric, I love these chats but my wife hates them since I ignore the chores during them. How do we start a grass roots (pun intended) movement t replace the natural grass with new synthetic stuff for Kelly's style of play. The same goes for a JUMBO_TRON
Thursday August 11, 2011 1:45 Dick from Cass
1:47
Eric Hansen:
My sympathies to your wife, but that's what kids are for ... right? As to the turf and Jumbotron questions, they've gained some traction but have a long way to go. The top of the decision-making food chain is not going to be easy to sway -- at least no in this century.

Eric Hansen:
To this point, it's been consistency. He knows it and is addressing it. He's not the fastest runner, but he's faster than his predecessor. Perhaps his biggest weakness beyond his control has been luck or genetics -- two reconstructive knee surgeries in two years. Yikes.

Did you see Irish Chocolate during the drills on UND.com? Wow. I'm a big believer that the lines will win and lose you games, and we are on the right track in terms of who we are recruiting. Do you see that trend continuing in future years? i.e. did Kelly see a need on the lines and have the staff work hard to recruit that just in the last cycle, or will we continually see a focus on recruiting both lines in the future?
Thursday August 11, 2011 1:54 Jeff from Denver
1:56
Eric Hansen:
I do not think the staff will let up, knowing how important it is. Now, remember, there are not as many scholarship overall this year, and a small number on the defensive line, given last year's haul. But no, I don't think they're going to veer from that strategy.

Way too early to tell. Definitely they have different styles. Cam played in a spread in high school and played better competition, so I think he has a better comfort level, but George is George Atkinson Jr.'s kid. He's tough. He'll come on.

do you think Golson will be redshirted? And do you think that ND has over recruited the OLB position? It seems like there is so much talent there with Troy Niklas, Ishaq, Counsell, Rabasa, etc. that they might have a great problem in trying to keep everyone in South Bend. What are your thoughts?

Any chance Notre Dame will quit playing MSU right after the Michigan game? Sure seems that after an emotinal game against a sorry Michigan team there is always a let down for MSU. Any change BK will pour it on the wolvernies?
Thursday August 11, 2011 2:01 Bobn from Rochester, MI
2:02
Eric Hansen:
It's tough to move those games and may be even tougher once the Big Ten goes to nine conference games. They'll have less flexibility then. As far as pouring it on the Wolverines, I think BK will be happy to walk out of there with a win of any margin.

Eric Hansen:
Let me give you it in Brian Kelly's words: I hope it's not too technical when he's talking about the zone read stuff:
“He’ll be one of the most explosive players in the country. He¿s just comfortable niow. Last year, it was all robotic. It was, ‘Get to this spot.¿ Now he flows to that spot. It¿s a big difference.
¿We ran zone read yesterday, where he¿s closing down on the dive. He took the dive away and the quarterback. There are not a lot of guys that I¿ve seen on film who can make that kind of play.
¿And he¿s doing it more instinctually. So it would not surprise me if he becomes one of the players that is regarder as a national player.”

[Comment From Nick from BostonNick from Boston: ]
I really like Cierre running the ball, he brings an explosiveness that I think we've been lacking since Julius. At the same time, I'm also scared every time he runs the ball. The vision of him coughing it up against SC on the winning drive (which we luckily recovered) keeps playing in my mind.

Thursday August 11, 2011 2:08 Matt from Wakarusa

The class is getting pretty full. I would say Definitely running back. After that inside linebacker and offensive tackle. Beyond that, safety, wide receiver, defensive end.

Thursday August 11, 2011 2:11 Al from Philly
2:13
Eric Hansen:
I love Chris Stewart, last year's LG. He would be the first to admit he's a better fit for the pro style than he was for the spread. On top of that, the guy was taking law school classes and he still acquitted himself well. Watt and Nuss are better fits for the spread. They're more mobile, for one. Who plays more? It's gone back and forth so much, I'd be flipping a coin, but I'll go with Watt. There's no drop-off.

He is such a good athlete. If he can be a difference-maker on special teams. they will play him. If it was just a matter of him playing outside linebacker, I would do the opposite and redshirt him, but special teams will be the determining factor here.

Wil this be a break-out yeat for John Goodman? Is he eligble for a 5th year!
Thursday August 11, 2011 2:15 Rob from NY

Eric Hansen:
Goodman is a guy I've always thought was going to break out at some point, and it's been more like a slow simmer. Right now TJ Jones is ahead of him in their position battle. Goodman does have a fifth-year option, but the size of the recruiting class and Goodman's production in 2011 are huge factors in whether that fifth year is exercised.

Hi Eric, can you speak more to the lack of depth at running back? Is this a real issue, or does Coach Kelly have options available? Also, when you speak to the AD (re: NBC), please enquire if ND is considering their own network programs like Texas. Your thoughts?
Thursday August 11, 2011 2:18 Sweeney, Phoenix
2:21
Eric Hansen:
The challenge for the freshman running backs is all the stuff that comes with being a running back -- and pass protection is at the top of that list. Cierre couldn't get on the field until he got that down. Riddick is Kelly's wild card in the depth situation. We had Jack Swarbrick on the radio in June and printed a transcript shortly thereafter. An ND network is in the works, but it's function and scope will be different than Texas'.

Thursday August 11, 2011 2:26 Troy-Fort Wayne, IN
2:26
Eric Hansen:
That's a good point, It is different from a couch vs. stadium standpoint for some folks. Right now, we've got quite a split, with 1:30 winning at 33 percent, but prime time coming in a close second (32 percent).
Thursday August 11, 2011 2:26 Eric Hansen

I'm not sure 2 or 3 games will define success or failure, but I'll give you three keys games that because of the opponent, timing or both, will be the most pivotal -- at Michigan, home vs. USC, at Stanford.

That's always going to happen. That's Michigan's territory. I think it's of bigger concern to Ohio State and Michigan State. ND recruits nationally. As long as they're getting the players they covet, wherever they come from, it's a win-win.

The one thing I have noticed in recent years is the lack of gamebreaking speed. It appears the defense is really adding size and speed. Does the offense have that type of game breaker, like a Rocket or a Tim Brown? Also, who would be your sleeper guy to jump up out of nowhere to have a great year?
Thursday August 11, 2011 2:32 Dennis, Downingtown, PA
2:34
Eric Hansen:
I don't think there is an equivalent of Rocket or Tim Brown on this team. I do think Floyd, Riddick and Wood can be game-breakers. In terms of coming out of nowhere? Prince Shembo.

It's tough to do a lot of rearranging of the first part of the schedule, because that's when the Big Ten teams want to play ND. The only way it gets softer is if they get worse.

If 1:30 kickoffs prevent ND from securing Natl talent, how do you explain Ara's, Dan's and Lou's success. Do today's players have that big an ego? Eric, do you find that a 5 star player has smaller upside potential than a 3 or 4 star?
Thursday August 11, 2011 2:51 GMoney

Eric Hansen:
I'm not sure you're comparing apples to apples when cutting across different eras on kickoff times. But I'm still a 1:30 guy with an OCCASIONAL night game. As far as the stars, it's tough to paint that with a broad brush, There are 2-star players with huge egos, for example. Sometimes it's the parents who drive the ego to be oversized or shrink it.
