Lynch’s mom responds to critics

9:00 am, April 23, 2012

Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o winced when he saw the waves of criticism and scorn aimed at former teammate Aaron Lynch on social media the first 24 hours following the star defensive end’s announcement he planned to transfer.

The following is a rough transcript of the response of Lynch’s mom, Alice, to one critic in particular, posted on her Twitter account Saturday afternoon:

“You know, I wasn’t going to respond to you, but let me give you that pleasure.

“You don’t know me, nor do you know my son. You want me or him to give you answers on WHY this happened, because let me tell you something Mr., don’t have nothing better to do than to run that finger across that keyboard and assume you have all the answers to how life is supposed to work.

“People make mistakes, hearts change, people change. And sometimes things don’t work out as we wish they would, even if it is what (is) best for us. It’s life, and in some cases it’s not our own, but somebody who we love dearly.

“There are a lot of things we wish we could get thru to them to understand, but it doesn’t work.

“Don’t you dare criticize me or my son until you could be in our shoes. Don’t go judging and casting stones at us until you can look in the mirror and tell God you’re perfect.

“What’s done is done, and there isn’t anything I can say or you (can say) to change that.”
