Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III, one of the top targets for Notre
Dame in the class of 2013, is expected to be on campus Monday.
Hargreaves, a 5-foot-11, 185-pounder from Wharton High in Tampa, Fla.,
tweeted that he and his father would be making the trip to South Bend.
Hargreaves’ father, also named Vernon, is the special teams
coordinator and defensive ends coach at South Florida under head coach
Skip Holtz.
Linebacker commit Jaylon Smith has been tweeting about Notre Dame’s
pursuit of Hargreaves.
“Going after Vernon let it be known world,” Smith tweeted on July 8.
Smith followed that up with another tweet about Hargreaves on July 12:
“Irish fans we’re goin after the #1 Cb, he needs to visit to see what
we’re bout.”
The visit to Notre Dame will be the first in a Midwest tour for the
Hargreaves, which will also include a stop at Ohio State among others.
The five-star cornerback has been busy making unofficial visits
following Nike’s The Opening camp the first weekend in July. After
completing a visit to USC on Friday, Hargreaves tweeted that the
Trojans were his current leader.
Hargreaves ranks as the No. 1 cornerback in the country, according to
247Sports.com, and the sixth prospect overall in the 2013 class.
Rivals.com slates Hargreaves as the No. 2 cornerback and 9th overall.
Hargreaves falls under the regional recruiting umbrella of Notre Dame
recruiting coordinator Tony Alford.
